What does this line mean in this context? In Please Like Me Rose: You know I'm sorry about when I tried?(She tried to kill herself) Josh(Rose's son): Yeah, I know. Rose: It's okay to be angry if you want. Josh: No, I don't want to be angry, okay? I always assumed it wasn't about me. What does it mean 'I always assumed it wasn't about me' in this context? Josh always tried to think as if it had never happened? It's difficult to understand because i'm not a native speaker. If you help me understand this, I'd really appreciate your help!

She is sorry about trying to kill herself and upsetting Josh. She tells Josh he can yell at her about it and express his anger at her (for presumably trying to leave him alone or put blame on him for her doing it). He says he is not angry with her because he always thought her reasons had nothing to do with himself ( or anything he had done).

Josh is saying that her reasons had nothing to do with him, so he has no right or reason to be angry. However, from this tiny passage, the fact that he said, "I always assumed..." to me says that he may have been the reason she tried to kill herself, but he only learned that recently. Maybe she told him that he was part of the reason? I've never read this, so I can't say for sure.
