His black face, glowing softly in the firelight, was transfigured with a strange contentment, an almost spirtitual delight in the wolf voices. an almost spirtitual delight is this define this contentment? how does a person associate with a wolf's mood,??

His black face may be a good clue. He might feel as much of an outsider as the wolves are. So he feels the call of the wolves...they are wild and free.
