Ten years is a long time to spend/to be spent away from family. Which is better? Thanks :) Are both correct? If so, what's the difference? Thanks!

'to spend' is better.

From these choices, I would pick "to spend." You could also just use "to be" without "spent." "Ten years is a long time to be away from family." - It has the same meaning.
