शुक्रिया या धन्यवाद? I understand that शुक्रिया has Persian origins and धन्यवाद has Sanskrit origins. Which one should I use? Is शुक्रिया more colloquial or would it be best to use धन्यवाद in India?

Both are fine, but "Dhanyvad" is more common in India and everyone can understand it. "Shukriya" is common in Muslims. In addition to both these words, you can say "Mai aapka aabhari hu."
