yes i agree with that culture and language difference may effect our relationship for example in a different culture swearing may be so normal and nobody gets offended but in the other culture it may be a shame to swear. And what about language difference according to me when you create a sentence you shouldn't think in your own language because it may be misunderstood in their own language especitially translating phrases are being misunderstood by many foreigner people. As a result when you create a sentence you should think about it twice not to be misunderstood. Thanks for reading my comment. Good lucks to you.

the answer is definitely. so don't involve into some sensitive topics and you should understand there are different taboos in different countries, especially in Arabic countries, Thailand, Indonesia, animals, such as: pork, mutton, beef, are forbidden, colour: red is forbidden.

yeah, i also think that different culture sometime is very hard to communicate .....the person might misunderstanding you. so we really need to be more sensitives. i had made some mistakes also.......

if some one invite me to eat pork i can't accept his invitation , but for sure i won't be angry..
but the most important thing that we are here to discuss with each other and to understand each others cultures.
there is no taboo, if you ask the appropriate question..
and we can't learn with out mistaking..

I agree with Ivy. The main thing is to be polite & culturally sensitive. It's always a good idea to familiarise yourself about your friend's country via the internet first.

    Hi Stephanie ,
Yes that is very true ,the language difference might result in lack of understanding of what is being said or misunderstanding it like in your case . The cultural difference might effect the communication with your partner due to non familiarity with many concepts of different cultures ,so familiarizing yourself with a friend's country's culture is a good idea as Jura suggests and trying to accept that there is a diversity in cultures seizing the opportunity to learn new interesting aspects of different countries .It shouldn't cause any conflict if you both accept the differences and enjoy the fun of learning something new from your partner :)
