How would you say "tip" in Russian in the sense of reporting a crime? Ex. if you had a "tip" about where a criminal was hiding out, you would report the tip to the police.

Есть еще глагол-жаргон. "Настучать" на кого-либо (to rat on smb.) Он настучал на Васю в полицию = Он рассказал полиции что-то плохое о Васе

I agree with ShadyArc. to have a tip- иметь сведения, располагать информацией (о местонахождении преступника) to report the tip to the police-сообщить (имеющуюся) информацию в полицию.

The most typical word is "информация". If you have it, it's better "сообщить в полицию". "сведения" is another word (plural-only), this time not a borrowed one. You can also "передать" a piece of information to the police (lit. "to give, to hand over") or "рассказать кому-то".
