African Slang?? and trends What are some African slang terms (with meaning) and trends? For example, I know Zef is a popular slang in Africa, and an African trend is no front teeth. Are there more? In America, Some slang: yall (you all) aggy (annoying, aggravating) selfie (picture taken of yourself) and American trends are Ugg Boots Fake nails fishtail braid/long hair.

Africa is a massive continent with a multitude of culture and languages. Zef is popular in South Africa only (other African countries don't speak Afrikaans and therefore are not familiar with the culture). Also, in South Africa not having front teeth is only common in coloured people and not other african people. Since there are so many languages spoken in Africa (there are 11 in South Africa alone) it's nearly impossible to sum up slang in the entire continent. But some examples: Braai - this is barque in South Africa yebo: Yes. tsotsi: A gangster toyi-toyi- protest skolli- gangster skelm- an untrustworthy person skebenga- gangster shebeen- an informal tavern rooinek- an English speaker lekker- nice kif- cool jol - party chommie- friend bru- a term of affection for males bakkie- pick up truck
