Using of indefinite article Is it obligatory to use indefinite article in such a sentence ( It was (a) dark cloudy day). I thought it is not so principle...or is it?

Yes, you need it. You need to make it clear that you're not referring to any particular dark cloudy day. 'It was Dark Cloudy Day' is talking about some special day that is known for being dark and cloudy, or is named because of an event where it was dark and cloudy. 'It was a dark cloudy day' is talking about any dark cloudy day.
