do most sentences in "imperative" need "preposition" ? I watched the movie. the girl says "give it up" as an order. What I've been wondering is that "do most imperatives use preposition"? I don't get it. then what's the difference with "give it to me"? and why it uses "up" instead of other preposition? Any help appreciates.thanks

You heard a phrasal verb: "to give (something) up". I'm not sure about the context, but I guess the meaning is "surrender it to me".

"Give it up" here can also be a command/request to stop doing something. "I'm tired of your whining. Give it up."
