BULGARIAN WOMEN’S NAMES In a 1915 National Geographic article about Bulgaria, the following women’s names are cited: Nadezda, Nadelka, Xarafinka, Bagoya, Vesselina, Goonka, Zdravka. Three of them: Xarafinka, Bagoya, and Goonka appear to be questionable. (Google couldn’t find a single example of anyone bearing any of these names.) “Bagoya” is probably a misspelling of “Blagoya”, but what about “Xarafinka” and “Goonka”? Does anyone have any theories about them?

My guess: Xarafinka - "Серафинка", or "Серафимка" or even "Сарафинка" - that name, as soon as I can see, is still in use in Croatia. No wonder that it was also in Bulgaria in 1915. Goonka - "Гунка" or "Гуна" Also, Nadelka I suppose is probably "Неделка" or "Недялка".
