Where do you start when learning a language? Hi everyone! I've been learning Italian off and on due to a busy schedule, and I thought I'd take the time to ask this question: How do you all begin learning your languages? Personally, Italian was my second language to learn, which made beginning easier. I'd also had to learn Latin as my foreign language in high school, and since Italian is a Romance language, that was also an advantage. I've used sites like busuu.com. Additionally, I used Rosetta Stone. RS is fine in the beginning with simple words, but soon you begin to wonder because there are no translations, just straight immersion, the same way you learn your native language as a kid. What does everyone else use to begin learning a language? RS, internet sites, teachers, textbooks and workbooks, or just having conversations with people native to the one you wish to learn? Thanks!

Hello, I find interesting the way you'd like to learn languages. That's cool. I use to learn languages by listen to appropriated podcasts when I'm beginner and reading&chatting when intermediate/advanced student. Regards.

A very usefull book for me was @Un giorno in piu'@ by Fabio Volo quite easy to read and understand.(you can find it in internet in PDF) full of simple dialogs and short sentensies. As for me..I had listened a lot the Italian TV programs to make me get ready to speak. Good luck

I think the best way to learn Italian is to listen many times some sentences from Italian persons and try to speak with them by Skype for example. Today I think it's a good possibility. Italian grammar is very difficult and there must be absolutely someone who listen to you and correct immediately, also writing.

I begin through reading, I think there' s basically no other way to start (but I might be wrong). You have to be careful about the book you choose though, some are really difficult while others are really easy, and it has nothing to do with the fame of the authour...If you can suggest me some good book I would appreciate it
