Hello everybody! Can you please help me with brainstorming the ideas essay? I'm preparing for the IELTS test and today I found one topic to what I should write an essay (about 250 words) can you please help me with brainstorming the ideas for it? Under British and Australian laws a jury in a criminal case has no access to information about the defendant's past criminal record. This protects the person who is being accused of the crime. Some lawyers have suggested that this practice should be changed and that a jury should be given all the past facts before they reach their decision about the case. Do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer.

I think a criminal record should be made available to the jury. The defendant's past criminal record can help establish his character and the credibility of his denial. For sentencing, his record should be used to determine the severity of the sentence. A person with no previous crimes should be shown some mercy and be given a second chance. A person with an extensive criminal background should be given a harsher sentence.
