sequential "that"s Is the following sentence equivalent to "a" or "b"? (my problem is with those two sequential "that"s) "Ernst was inspired by the 19th-century illustrator J. J. Grandville to create bizarre images that had an internal visual logic that displayed an uncanny truth." a) Ernst was inspired by the 19th-century illustrator J. J. Grandville to create bizarre images that had an internal visual logic AND displayed an uncanny truth. b) Ernst was inspired by the 19th-century illustrator J. J. Grandville to create bizarre images that had an internal visual logic, an internal logic that was indicative of an uncanny truth.

It's the second interpretation. The first 'that' refers to the images and the second 'that' refers to logic.
