would honor the freedom of mind in science and print and speech???
At most we presume that our teachers and leaders would brook no restraint upon their inculcation of the Christian code, and that, if necessary, they would leave the costly pulpit and preach, like Christ, along the highways and byways of men. We trust, too, that a strengthened and purified church would honor the freedom of mind in science and print and speech, and would recognize that the good and the beautiful may shine out in sages, rebels, and poets as well as in prophets and saints. Indeed the new church would welcome the accumulation of a second Bible, recording the most inspiring thoughts and actions of every race of men. Who will be the Plutarch of the moral heroes of history?
1) For "would honor the freedom of mind in science and print and speech", whether it means " would honor the freedom of mind in aspects of science and print and speech" ?
2) Please kindly help explain the last sentence. Thanks.
