I can't understand a line from a certin old movie. "Nothing's touching bacause I know you hate that" Please read the context first of all. Context: A little boy has stopped speaking after a traumatic experience - his father died from a strange toy. His mother worries him a lot and feels sorry for him. One day, she makes some toasts for him. She puts the tray on the table in front of him. She says "I made everything just the way you like it. And look, nothing's touching 'cause I know you hate that." Question. What does it mean by 'nothing's touching bacause I know you hate THAT' exactly? I guess... maybe does it just mean "There is no one who would touch the toasts you'd eat" and "You hate it when you eat something with someone else together"? Am I right? Hmm... that's weird. Can you guess what she meant to say? It might be a silly question though. I need to cultivate the power of understanding. By the way, you can see the origianl context. It's a short video clip : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHQ7ym9nuWw

Don't worry, it's not a silly question at all. I agree with the two other answers. In fact, this is quite a common obsession among young children in some countries in the west. Some small children, especially boys, do sometimes insist that there should be a small space between everything on their plate. They get upset if the meat is in contact with the vegetables, for example. I realise this must seem weird to someone from Asia, where dishes combining many ingredients is the norm. I guess it would be difficult for a Korean child to insist that nothing on his plate should be touching anything else. It's also sad that a small proportion of people, particularly those with tendencies towards Aspergers, autism or OCD, carry this on into adulthood. As for the scene in your movie, the purpose of this comment is to show how thoughtful and indulgent the mother is being towards the child following his traumatic experience.

It could be that the boy complains about something "touching" something else on the plate. Some parents will cater to their children's whims that way.

I agree with Bruce. The mother is talking about the arrangement of food on the plate.
