'Appear' is probably your most useful all-purpose word here. Things, or people, can appear on a screen, on TV, in a magazine or book.

Appear is usually used when something is unexpected or surprising. "Suddenly this weird icon appeared on the desktop." Show is used more so when you want to point someone's attention toward something specific "Let me show you something" or "This book shows you how to build a house" Present is far less used and I've only heard it used when introducing someone or something. "Let me present to you, Mr. John Smith"
