how do you express fondness in japanese. What are the most common ways for someone to say they are fond of someone or something. "I'm fond of him/her" or "I find cooking enjoyable".

すき (です) works fine. かれ が すき です / りょうり が すき です. Note that like in English, すき expresses in several ways. When you say “I like him”, the meaning can come through both “I just like him (as a friend)” or “I like-like him”.

"私は彼/彼女のことが好きです” ”私は料理をするのが好きです(得意です)” が自然な表現だと思います。
