Both are correct ? numbers I was wondering why do they have 2 ways of saying four, seven and nine ? Is it because of the tens later on ? like 14 or something like that ? Or is it for being polite ? 四 yon (yohn) or shi (shee) (four) 七 nana (nah-nah) or shichi (shee-chee) (seven) 九 kyū (kyooo) or ku (koo) (nine)

はい、両方とも正しいです。Yes. Both are correct. 和語<わご>(元々の日本語)の数の言い方は次のとおりです。The expressions of the number of original Japanese are as follows. 1ひと(つ) 2ふた(つ) 3み(つ) 4よ(つ) 5いつ(つ) 6む(つ) 7なな(つ) 8や(つ) 9ここの(つ) 10とを 漢字(中国語)の数の言い方は次のとおりです。The expressions of the number of kanji (Chinese) are as follows. 1イチ 2ニ 3サン 4シ 5ゴ 6ロク 7シチ 8ハチ 9ク(old)/キュウ(new) 10ジッ(old)/ジュウ(new) 漢字のシとシチとイチの発音は紛らわしいので、今日<コンニチ>では和語の発音を代用することが多いですが、慣用句では本来の(古い)言い方が残っていることもあります。Since the pronunciations of Shi, Shichi, and Ichi of kanji are similar and confusing, they are substituted for the pronunciation of words of original Japanese today in many cases, but the original(old) way of speaking may remain by the idiom. 次のとおりです。It is as follows. 四六時中<シロクジチュウshirokujichuu> 七五三<シチゴサンshichigosan> 十中八九<ジッチュウハックjicchuuhakku/ジュッチュウハックjucchuuhakku > 十戒<ジッカイjikkai>
