Ciao!
"Medesimo" e "stesso" sono quasi sempre sinonimi, esprimono entrambi identità.
Quando possono essere usati come sinonimi
(When you can use "stesso" and "medesimo" as synonyms):
A) che è proprio quello, che non è diverso o altro da quello di cui si parla o a cui si allude.
(Identical with what is about to be or has just been mentioned)
- Questa è la stessa/medesima strada in cui ci trovavamo ieri -> This street is the same one we were on yesterday
- Io e te abbiamo la stessa/medesima macchina -> You and me have the same car
B) Uguale per quantità, qualità, numero, etc, corrispondenza (agreeing in kind, quantity, quality, amount, etc.; corresponding)
- Due scatole della stessa/medesima dimensione --> two boxes of the same dimension
C) Unito a pronomi personali, “medesimo” e “stesso” hanno il valore rafforzativo del lat. ipse
(Combined with personal pronouns, “medesimo” and “stesso” are intensifier as latin ipse :
- L’ho visto io stesso -> I saw it myself.
- Il danno ricade su noi medesimi -> The damage falls upon ourselves
D) Per indicare la stessa persona o la stessa cosa (the same person or thing):
- E’ la stessa/medesima persona che mi ha telefonato stamattina -> It is the same who called me this morning
“STESSO” è usato frequenemente come locuzione avverbiale “lo stesso”, ugualmente
("STESSO" is frequently used as an adverbial phrase “lo stesso", that is translatable with English words “anyway; anyhow; in any case”:
- anche se non ne hai voglia, devi studiare lo stesso --> Even if you don’t want to study, you have to do it anyway.
- piove, ma verrò lo stesso. --> It's raining, but I will come anyway.
