I think it is made without any purpose. Maybe just like a beautiful mistake?! :P

I think the word "purpose" is simply a human-made word, so it depends on us to consider if the universe has or not a purpose depending on the meaning we give to that word. If we consider as "purpose" every change, for example: the purpose of water is to flow or to allow us to live, then the universe is the most accurate definition of "purpose". On the other hand if we think for example "there's no point on the planets to move" and we understand "purpose" as something "useful" then, of course, the universe doesn't have any purpose. (I'd be glad if you could correct my mistakes writing in English) ^_^

I think the human mind cannot understand the universe. It's as simple as that. Does the universe have a purpose? We don't know, and we won't ever know. The universe might be a computer simulation. Everyone who knows computers and knows a little about quantum physics wonders about this. Maybe we are in a simulation and the strange laws of quantum physics are explained by rounding errors in the computer's arithmetic. Something like this is being seriously studied by scientists! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/02/16/opinion/sunday/is-the-universe-a-simulation.html?_r=0 It's troubling to think of "not being able to know." However, we do have limits to our knowledge. For example, how many people would you say you "know?" 100? 1,000? If "know" means nothing more than knowing their names, some people (not me!) might know 10,000--in some way. Now, how many people are there in the world? In your country? IN YOUR TOWN?
