Where should I start in learning Italian? Hey! So a problem I've had for awhile, when studying Italian on my own for the past two years, is simply where should I start? I have books that seem to focus on tourist-like conversation, the same with what few free programs I come across, while I would like to learn the language so I could live in Italy for work. What should be emphasized in my learning? Grammar? Vocabulary? Reading? Speaking of course, but from what I know already I still couldn't tell you much. Similarly, is there any free Italian audio books, radio programs, children's shows, or Youtube vloggers that anyone could recommend? I feel like these will help while I save up for lessons. Anyway, thank you very much for your time!I realize this question would be better in the discussion section :/Bear with me, I'm new :D

Start with Assimil or LingQ. Don't spend to much time with grammar, it will come naturally. Both options are fairly cheap, I use LingQ it me costs me $ 3 Aus a week. Also LingQ has some great advice on YouTube. Also look at the YouTube channel Italiano Automatico. Alberto is doing a great job with his new videos

As far as what to concentrate on it is pretty hard, I'm in the same boat and at times if feels overwhelming, learning the sentence structures, grammar, vocabulary etc... So far I've learned a great deal through Duolingo, it's free and pretty good at giving examples and introducing information. However, the site does not help out much with explanations of the material, but if you look in the comments on the exercises you have issues with, other users usually provide some really good clues and sites to visit for you to learn. I also really like lyricstraining.com in order to tune my "ear". Listening to Italian songs and then filling in the random words is actually harder than it seems too.

Q: What should be emphasized in my learning? Grammar? Vocabulary? Reading? A: because Italian grammar is tough I suggest to focus on the basis of the grammar, vocabulary is also important but you will find that many words sound similar to English words and it's easy to remember them, just beware about some words that seems similar but not they are. Reading is almost simple, there are few rules about pronunciation, but reading is a good way to learn new words and get familiar with the Italian grammar. You can find on this site ( http://www.liberliber.it/online/ ) many Italian books and audio books (browsing in the sites should be a pain, but there are many good stuff). They are free and legal to download. On youtube you can find many children's shows, just try to search "cartoni animati" (cartoons) Last but not least: http://www.italianpod101.com/ on this site there are a lot of pod cast to learn Italian language, even it's not totally free, on the first week you can get access to (and download) all podcasts, then every week you can get one new free lesson, and every day one new word to study.
