Is "This is a new word for me. Let me consult the dictionary." OK? When I talk with someone and can't understand the meaning of the word they use, I say "This is a new word for me. Let me consult the dictionary.". Is that correct? Or what is the native expression?

Yes. It sounds very proper though. To be more casual you could say "let me check the dictionary"
