Actually those books you mention are the popular ones in México, too (the "perks" of a globalized world,i supposed). When I was a teenager I read some books from Gabriel García Márquez, Borges, Vargas Llosa and Cortázar. It's a heavy reading if you are learning spanish, but their writing is delightful and just wonderful.
I recommend you to start with one that you have already read in english, like Divergente.
My first book in english was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, it was difficult for me at that time, but I learned a lot from it.
