Please, check this Matt Zaleski is one of the main characters of A. Hailey's book "Wheels". He was a veteran of both World War II and the auto industry. His job was very stressful and he even felt his life had been easier when he took part in the war. The contrast between the energy and freshness of his earlier days and the present-day feelings of loneliness and weariness made him believe that the way of life of humanity long time ago had been overall better. He could not understand the present-day ideas of equality between the black and the white, between men and women and between the younger and the older generations. Unfortunately, his inflexibility only added to his loneliness and irritation when he had to face some modern views ofpof people significant to him.

I think it's correct. But in this sentence, "The contrast between the energy and freshness of his earlier days ..." I think it's better to use former days than earlier days :)
