what does "spilled beer and very likely old puke stains "mean? Dark bronze ceiling fixtures with amber shades replaced the ship’s wheels and added moody lighting. Paintings, wall sculptures and a trio of his grandmother’s pencil sketches depicted local scenes. Somewhere along the way someone had sanded and scraped off years of grime, spilled beer and very likely old puke stains so the wide-planked wood floor gleamed.I don't get "very likely old puke stains ",what does it mean? someone throw up?

"puke" is a slang term for vomit. I imagine what the scene is describing is this: a long time ago, someone vomited (puked) on the wood floor. They had cleaned, sanded, and scraped it off, but it still left a stain. Even though they cleaned the vomit/puke off, you could still see it because of the stain. Does that make sense?
