Can anyone please give me a few more examples of this pattern? "He being ill, his mother has to take care of him at home." I have to explain this sentence to my students. Can anyone please give me a few more examples? And are the following phrases correct? He being late, all the students had to wait in the rain outside the classroom. (for he kept the only key to the classroom) The concept being misunderstood, it was impossible for him to explain his theory to the audience. Thanks a lot...

"He being ill" might not be the best way to express it. I would say, "Since/because he was ill..." I am from the US, by the way. Maybe your expression is more common in other English speaking countries.
