What is the importance of formality in Korea and what tips would you have for visitors? I'm curious on the formality of body language and language in Korea! When would you speak formally amd informally and what uses of your body language are important in Korea?

Quoted from http://www.ediplomat.com/np/cultural_etiquette/ce_kr.htm Koreans consider it a personal violation to be touched by someone who is not a relative or close friend. Avoid touching, patting or back slapping a Korean. Direct eye contact between junior and senior business people should be avoided. This is seen as impolite or even as a challenge. Do not cross your legs or stretch your legs out straight in front of you. Keep your feet on the floor, never on a desk or chair. Always pass and receive objects with your right hand (supported by the left hand at the wrist or forearm) or with two hands. To beckon someone, extend your arm, palm down, and move your fingers in a scratching motion. Never point with your index finger. We don't really use body language a lot in Korea. But I can list some gestures that can be rude in front of elder or people you are not very familiar - Put hands in the pocket in front of someone - Shake leg - Put elbow on the table when you eat - Chew gum when speak - Point at someone with finger Here are some fun and good examples about Korean gesture. http://youtu.be/JuajQLuW9Lk http://youtu.be/K5kd-R0pI-4 http://blog.korea.net/?p=2622 http://jkllr.net/2012/06/05/hand-gestures-and-physical-contact-in-korea/
