How do you distinguish the Chinese accent ?

If the question is about "distinguishing" (認出) the Chinese accent, then I'd say it's usually how the speaker has trouble with "r" and "l" and sometimes "th" sounds. If the question is about "extinguishing" (改掉) the Chinese accent, then listening and practicing is probably the only way. And note that across the US, there are regional "accents" so there isn't necessarily a "standard" American accent (think about speakers in Beijing vs. Shanghai).

It's not a matter of reducing your Chinese accent, but rather a matter of acquiring the accent of a native English speaker. In general, Chinese students learning English need to pay attention to certain consonants, and especially to the use of sentence stress, rhythm, and intonation. When I get a new Chinese student, I can determine in just a few minutes how we can acquire an authentic accent in the most efficient manner possible.
