What does "blow off the doors of..." mean? The context is as follows: "The Dark Knight" blew off the doors of what a comic book movie could be. This movie destroyed box office records, making it the number two movie in the United States of all time and number four worldwide.

I haven't heard the expression before, but in this context it means that it completely exploded/demolished previous terms of reference/expectations of what a comic book movie could be.
