Where can a Canadian buy a novel written in Swedish? Hello there! I am from Canada and am learning Swedish. I have come to a point now that I would like to read novels written in Swedish in order to improve my ability in the language. However, it appears to be nearly impossible to buy a Swedish book here without spending well over $100.00. Does anyone know of a good web site that sells novels written in Swedish where it does not cost an insane amount of money to get it to Canada?

I would try Amazon UK or France (or Germany if you speak German) where you have the option to browse for books in a specific language. On amazon.co.uk, just choose Books & Audible > Books and then you can choose the language on the left. On amazon.fr, choose Livres > Livres anglais et étrangers and choose Swedish on the left. Amazon Canada does not seem to have the option to browse for books in a specific language (other than English and French) but apparently you can still get Swedish books if you look for a specific (popular) title (for example “En man som heter Ove” by Fredrik Backman or “Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann” by Jonas Jonasson). You could also have a look in the iBook Store. If you look for a specific Swedish title or author, you should be able to find something. I hope this was helpful!

I'd suggest you find someone from Sweden who is nice enough to exchange books with you. They get one in English and you get one in Swedish. You just need to find a trustworthy person, maybe even here, on italki. :)

Maybe you could just rent some Swedish novels at the library? :)

There's also ebooks, for example on bokus.com. I use an E-Reader, other people have a suitable app on their slab computer or clevertelephone... Embedded dictionaries are a great thing, just mark a word for looking it up in a mono- or bilingual dicitionary!

I think if you find a story that you are interested in you can just search for it on the internet and see what you find. Or you can ask a Swedish student who like to write to write a novel and send it to you.
