Latin is the official language of the Vatican City State, and many (all?) official documents of the Catholic Church are translated into Latin.
Apart from Catholicism, many academic disciplines use Latin expressions. You mentioned law, but it also holds good for pharmacy, medicine, biology...
Also, you need to know Latin if you want to be able to read Latin literature...
