What is the difference between どうも ありがとう and ありがとう?? Sometimes I hear somebody says "どうもありがとう" Is adding "どうも" make it more polite??

Yes, adding どうも makes a sentence more polite. どうも is convenient word. You can say, どうも すみません(I'm sorry), too.
