Software for learning and practicing pronunciation (any language)? Anyone have recommendations for free or inexpensive software that would help students learn pronunciation? I'd also like some pronunciation practice files for learning IPA for American English (for my language partners) and beginning Hebrew for myself. Before computers took over the world, we used to use special "language lab" tape recorders for practicing pronunciation. A teacher would record sounds, words or sentences on one track. Students could repeat the words and record on the other track, then rewind the tape and compare their own pronunciation with the teacher's pronunciation. If the student has good ears, he or she can learn very accurate pronunciation this way.

You can find user-submitted pronunciations of words on www.forvo.com . Anyone can submit a word for any language, and native speakers can then choose to record their own voice and upload it. This is also a good way to hear different accents. I like to download the audio and put it into flashcards using Anki.
