What would be the difference between 'a couple' and 'a pair'? Hello everybody, I assume that both expressions refer to two things or individuals, but I want to know any rule about their correct use and to have some typical examples. Thank you all for your time and patience.

A pair is more often two things that should be together and a couple two of something. A couple can refer to boyfirend and girlfriend. A pair could be a pair of aces when playing cards, a pair of trousers, a pair of socks, a pair of shoes, a pair of scissors etc
