When can to use <hol on and wait?

Do you mean "Hold on", and "wait"? You can use either one, but "hold on" is usually for a shorter amount of time. Examples: "Hold on while I take the garbage outside", or "Please wait for your turn to talk", or "You must wait for five minutes" Wait is often used with a time (but not always). Hold on - is almost a form of slang. I hope that is helpful.
