stop the class because of... we stopped the class because of preparing for the May day's performance. Is the sentence correct and idiomatic? Thank you.

This sentence isn't completely right. It should say, "We stopped the class to prepare for the May's day performance." I have never heard of a May Day performance though, so the sentence is also not idiomatic.
