I would say that depends on your requirements. If you need to speed up your talking/listening skills then get in touch with natives and focus on the oral part. If reading and writing are more important than the classic textbook approach is more appropriate I think.The most preferred way is combination of both of course. But the key drivers in learning a language rapidly are aptitude and motivation (which includes time!)

Different people react differently to the various learning methods out there. However, I believe the most effective way to learn a language is to be completely immersed in it. This usually means living in the country of that language (e.g. French in France) for maybe 2-3 months. It switches your mind from thinking 'casually' to thinking by 'necessity'. Alternatively, talking to native speakers regularly is probably the second best.
