In the United States, it varies a lot and depends on the situation and peoples' age, background and personality.
These are the norms for my age group: men generally don't do more than shake hands. Men who are family or close friends may or may not give each other a quick hug. With people of my generation, a man and a woman or two women who are warm friends may give each other a quick "peck" on the cheek. Typically the woman signals this by turning her head to invite the peck. This is usually accompanied by a quick hug.
