How to pronounce this? There's this person I know who's Japanese. His name is Daiki. How would you pronounce his name? Japanese names are typically written in Hiragana, right? So it'd be だいき. So you'd pronounce it dah-ee-kee. Or dye-kee. Which one?

The closest approximation in U.S. English is "dye-kee". Theoretically it is indeed "dah-ee-kee" but trying saying that quickly and you'll that the "eye" sound in all languages is mostly a product of "ah" and "ee" being said together in rapid succession.
