"A year had flown by."- Can this expression be correct?
Hey guys in my learning material i saw this expression. But have no idea why not "A year HAS flown by."Pls help.

It's June! A year HAS flown by since I was on holiday in Australia.
It was June1996, and nearly a year HAD flown by since my holiday in Australia.
Can you see the difference?
