Almost every good partner checks your profile to know if you're a serious lerner. You need to write some stuff in your notebook, correct other people notebooks, fill everything in your profile... when you send a request you should write the reasons of choosing that person snd why you want to learn the language... if not, no one would take you seriously snd it would be harder to find someone eager to help you.
