How do I say "I took a year off from work" in Japanese? For context, I'm on a sabbatical this year, so I'm not working for the year. Instead I'm traveling and learning languages. (Tough life, right?) How do I explain that I still have a job, but I don't have to work this year. I spend all my time studying languages, meeting new people, and exploring the countries I go to.

I know you have been studying so hard everyday! In that case, I would say like this; I'm on a sabbatical this year, so I'm not working for the year. Instead I'm traveling and learning languages. I spend all my time studying languages, meeting new people, and exploring the countries I go to. 休職(きゅうしょく)means a state that an employee still belongs to a company but is not working for any reasons (sickness, private matters, study abroad, etc.) I don't think we Japanese are very familiar with the idea of "sabbatical" but I'd love to if I could ;-) Hope this helps.
