Do you know the meaning of CONTEXT? Again and again I am trying to help students who are asking questions about meaning without giving a context. I just want you to understand- if you write one sentence from a book or article, then I cannot understand the meaning without knowing what was being discussed before. Please try to quote more than one sentence, and please try to explain what the book or article are about.Otherwise I cannot help you!

This assertion is valid in more or less every language context. An exception could be the terse language of 'road signs' , but thinking better there is a big silent context even there that says: 'read us and save your and others' lives'. An interesting subject, thank you!

Okay Gary of course I can have a shot at guessing the context, and sometimes I might be right. However, for a person to base some homework or an understanding at a guess from me is not so reliable, and I prefer not to work that way.

Perhaps rather than 'cannot', you meant 'may not be able to'?

I agree with you!
