Mrs (pronounced missus) is used for a married woman who has taken her husband's surname. Mrs Brown the wife of Mr Brown. Miss is used for an unmarried woman. Miss Brown is the unmarried daughter of the Brown family. Both of these titles are a little old-fashioned, and may be seen as politically incorrect. Nowadays, it is often preferable to use 'Ms', as it gives no indication of marital status. Ms Brown may or may not be married.
