What's the difference between ISBN and MHID, shown as a series of numbers on the back of a book?

The ISBN is like a bar code--it identifies each edition of a published book or product. I had to google MHID, but it looks like another form of ISBN (https://www.mheonline.com/isbn_number). Maybe they ran out of ISBN numbers?
