Dutch: Are these translations involving questions and "I don't know..." sentences correct? 1a. Who came yesterday? = Wie is gisteren gekomen? 1b. I don’t know who came yesterday. = Ik weet niet, wie gisteren is gekomen. 2a. What did he buy last night? = Wat heeft hij gisteravond gekocht? 2b. I don’t know what he bought last night. = Ik weet niet, wat hij gisteravond heeft gekocht. 3a. When did they watch the movie? = Wanneer hebben zij de film gekeken? 3b. I don’t know when they watched the movie. = Ik weet niet, wanneer zij de film hebben gekeken. 4a. Where did Jake buy that book? = Waar heeft Jake dat boek gekocht? 4b. I don’t know where Jake bought that book. = Ik weet niet, waar Jake dat boek heeft gekocht. 5a. Why did Jake take that book from her? = Waarom heeft Jake dat boek van haar weggenomen? 5b. I don’t know why Jake took that book from her. = Ik weet niet, waarom Jake dat boek van haar heeft weggenomen.6a. How did David read this book? = Hoe heeft David dit boek gelezen? 6b. Hi! You are doing great! 1a. Good 1b. The comma doesn't belong there. I'm not a linguist, but it usually combines two sentences that can also be written as one or where you can also use ()'s. 2a. Good 2b. See 1b 3a. Good 3b. Again this comma ;-) 4a. Good 4b. See 1b 5a. Good, except 'weggenomen' is a bit formal in my opinion. I would use 'afgepakt'. 5b. The comma, and see 5a. 6a. Good 6b. See 1b 7a. Good 7b. Replace the comma with 'of'. 8a. Good 8b. See 7b 9a. Good 9b. See 1b 10a. Good.. Maybe a linguist can advise you on the use of 'wiens'. I very rarely use it and reconstruct the sentence to avoid it. It sounds very formal to me. 10b. See 1b and 10a. 11a. It's 'Welk boek'. 11b. See 1b and 11a.
