Get used to the sound of it and try to test yourself and practice by re-writing the syllables. I'm using the "Let's learn Katakana" book and this is the method I'm using. Also maybe making posters and flash cards with the letters really help. Don't worry, you'll get the hang of it. Ganbatte! ^^

http://www.japaneseammo.com/the-easiest-way-to-learn-hiragana/ this website is awesome . print this and learn the hiragana and this for the katakana http://www.japaneseammo.com/the-easiest-way-to-learn-katakana1/ .it's like booklet it made learning so easy (how to write) you just need to have some confidence and you are going to be okay . i think you should know how to write first then how to talk. learn the characters first. and good luck ^^
