Which is more formal, 'Hope that' or 'I hope that'? I want to ask a question, Which is more formal, 'Hope that ...' or 'I hope that ...' ? Is 'Hope that ...' a imperative sentence?

"I hope that" is formal. "Hope that" is informal. You would say it in a sentence like this: "Hey buddy! Hope that you have a fun trip!" That sounds natural.

Formal English means that all the information is written out clearly... so, contractions and casual omissions of the subject (eg. "Hope that...") are informal.
