ㄱ sounds g. ㅋ sounds k. ㄷ sounds d ㅌ sounds t ㄹ sounds l Is it simple, isn't it? When you say ㄱ, ㄷ, try to say softly. When you say ㅋ,ㅌ, try to say strongly. There is no 'R' sound in Korean. However, if you are English speaker, you can't help saying ㄹ to R. I've been living 9 years in America, and speak English every single day. One day, I found out myself saying ㄹ to R sounds. Isn't it funny? I cant help it.

ㄱ sounds like ㄱ. ㄹ sounds like ㄹ. ㄷ sounds like ㄷ. Korean sounds like Korean not English. If you want to know how Korean sounds, you need to listen to Korean. Don't use Romanization. It is a lie. I don't try to read English using the Cyrillic alphabet, don't learn Korean by relying on the Latin alphabet. English pronunciation and spelling is very irregular as well, so Romanization could be interpreted in many ways. And none of those ways will ever sound like natural Korean. Study Korean, not English.

For example, g or k in english is not equivalant to ㄱ in korean exactly, but sounds close to it. So one could choose to use g or k for ㄱ.

It's so illogical to me. It makes me rant to my poor mother.
