A Chicken Question I thought we generally refer to the meat of a rooster, a hen, or a chick chicken. Does it sound juvenile to use “chicken” to mean a rooster, a hen, or a chick? This might be a strange/an obvious question, but for some reason it is not very obvious to me. Can you help clarify? Thanks!

No, it is natural to use chicken to refer to a chicken or chick or to refer to meat of a chicken (chicken meat, chicken sandwich). Most people would probably call a rooster a roster though, even though technically it is male chicken. A hen is a female chicken. Farmers raise chickens, either for their eggs, or to sell them to slaughterhouses.
